Why do they call them 'a mans best friend?' There is nothing special about them, they make noise, they plead for food, really why would you even consider having a dog? Well this is how I use to think, till I first met her. Lucy was her name. A beautiful dog she was, with that big wet black nose and those fast strong legs. Her eyes were like black crystals glittering in the sun. She has this amazing coat of fur on her, with patches of brown and black all over her, it was very exquisite. She was a very intelligent dog in that you understand what she wanted or what she wanted to say from just looking into her eyes. She was my new best friend and I was never going to let her go, unless she was going to let me go.

It was a warm Saturday morning, with the ray of the sun beaming through the gaps of my bedroom curtains touching my skin. This was the day I first met Lucy, a wonderful day that will be never forgotten. I was at the park playing catch with my dad. I was seventeen and I was still playing catch with my dad, well at least it keep him happy, I think that's the only reason why I really did it. We got to the park and dad threw me the ball, I put my hands up the catch it but the ball never reached my hands. I looked around and this huge German Shepard jumped out of nowhere and grabbed the ball in its huge mouth. The dog stopped, turned around and looked at me. From that one look, my thoughts on dogs instantly changed. She didn't have a collar or any tags on her. I loved her from the day I laid eyes on her. "Can we keep her dad, please dad?" Since after my mums car accident dad let me do whatever whenever. It was good in a way, but it was never the same without her. I named her Lucy after my mum. When I first met Lucy there was something different about her that I could not really pin point straight away. Then I recognised that on the back left on her body she was missing part of her coat, and there was many stitches from a deep wound. I never really payed much attention to it, but I new there was something different about this particular dog.

Lucy had been part of the family for six months now. She was a great companion and I don't know what I would've done without. Every morning Lucy would come into my room at around eight o'clock, open my curtains, turn on my radio then jump on the bed and start licking my cheeks till my eyes would slowly open. Sometimes she had really bad breath and I would go to school without having a shower and you could smell the dog slobber all over my face, my girlfriend thought I was seeing someone else. Lucy was starting to grow apart of my life; I would do everything and anything with her. I took her for walks every night after school, she would come to my mate's house whenever I went there, and she was my best friend. Yet there was something still different about her. Every time we would watch the TV or listen to the radio and there were gun shot noises or military men on the TV Lucy would go ballistic, running around the house barking and barking as if someone had died. I know dogs can act weird sometime, but this was every time.

Then it came one morning and Lucy didn't come in my room and open my curtain and turn on my radio and wake me up. It came one morning when I went to find Lucy I couldn't find her. She was no-where; there was no sign at all where she had gone. I searched the streets for hours, days, weeks and even months. I put 'lost dog' signs around the whole neighbourhood. I didn't go to school for weeks and I didn't eat any food. It was like as if my mum had died all over again and the feelings of being lost and confused had started all over again. It was two months later and there was still no sign of Lucy, and this is when I started to give up hope. Dad being a loving dad tried to buy me another dog the same as Lucy, yet it wasn't the same. It's nothing like he could buy me another mum when my mum had died, then how could he replace Lucy, but he was just trying to do the best for me. Life had to go on sooner or later, with or without Lucy.Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Lost

Then morning I decided to actually read the newspaper. I unwrapped the plastic and placed it on the dinner table. Then right there, it was Lucy! She was standing next to a military soldier and the headline read 'Heroic dog saves little girl.' I was thrilled to see a picture of Lucy yet I was also confused of how she got there. I started to read the article. It was talking about how a military soldier dog saved a little girl who was taken hostage by a bank robber.

"The robber was in the 'bank of Melbourne' when military forces circled the building. The robber grabbed a little girl then threatened to kill her with a gun, if the forces don't back off. Then out of no-where a military job attacked the robber, and then the robber fired a shot at the dog. He died instantly as the shot went right through the dogs heart. The girl had enough time while the dog was attacking the robber to run away to safety. The robber is in custody at the moment and is being sentenced next month. The dog is known as a hero and a special president award is being presented at the dog funeral."

As I read the article tears started rolling down my cheeks hitting the newspaper and making ink run. Everything started to make sense to me then, everything about how Lucy had stitches on the side of her body; it must have been from a military accident or maybe even a gunshot. Also how Lucy always gets agitated whenever military forces are shown on the TV or gunshots are heard on the radio. When I lost my mum I thought there was no point in living and there was no point to my life without her. Then there was a sign of hope when Lucy came into my life. Lucy helped me to recover my life and put myself back together again. Now she is gone, like my mum. If Lucy was just going to break my heart like my mum then why did she come into my life at the start?
