'Weapons Training' is an example of how Dawe entertains his readers. He makes a serious subject lighter by including humour in the poem. He refers to their 'crown jewels' being injured, and for any man they are his most well kept possession. Hearing that they could no longer be able to 'turn the key in the ignition' as much, makes them listen. One major thing all recruits are told about is the enemy. In this case it's the 'Charlies' and they have 'rotten fish-sauce breath'. The sergeant tells the new recruits of the enemy so that they hate them enormously and therefore will kill them at any cost. Like everything he tells them, he tells them for their own benefit. They may not believe him when he is telling him but when they are in combat and do kill successfully; it will be from what the sergeant told them. The sergeant makes a funny remark about a 'woman's tit' in contrast with a control stick, saying that 'worse luck or you'd be set'. When he said that there would have been some hypothetical laughs between the men. This is again to lighten the atmosphere whilst still being very serious about the matter at hand. He produces a hypothetical situation where the 'Charlies' are on their necks and they cannot pull the control stick in time. They then 'cop the bloody lot' and are 'dead dead dead'. The repetition of dead furthers the sergeant's wish for them to survive. 'Weapons Training' is at large an anti-war poem again showing the truths of war.
